KEY SPECIALISATIONS

Salma Consulting has been a staunch advocate for gender-related studies and women-focused research from the very beginning. Our comprehensive expertise and proficiency in understanding gender dynamics and their manifestations within stringent socio-normative contexts have proven instrumental in assisting numerous agencies. We empower them to grasp the intricate nuances of gendered experiences among beneficiaries, the multifaceted challenges of incorporating gender considerations into programming and strategy, and the implementation of measures to navigate development and humanitarian responses effectively.

In the context of often prevailing restrictions on women and girls, we emphasise that gender is a socially constructed and relational concept that necessitates a holistic understanding, taking into account the specific context, historical backdrop, language, geography, and unique characteristics of each of the societies we engage with.

Salma Consulting’s team has played a pivotal role in supporting development efforts related to education strategy, implementation, and monitoring for nearly a decade. Our deep understanding of the educational landscape, encompassing various approaches such as Community-Based Education (CBE), Accelerated Learning Programmes (ALP), and private and public education, has empowered numerous development organisations to tailor their initiatives to align with the specific needs and values of their target beneficiaries.

Our extensive experience spans a wide range of educational dimensions, including teacher quality assessments, learning assessments, classroom-based observations of learning environments, teacher pedagogy, community engagement, the promotion of gender-inclusive practices within schools, and the utilisation of alternative learning modalities to facilitate access to education for out-of-school students.

In contexts confronting drought and suboptimal health indicators, Salma Consulting has undertaken substantial work in collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance health outcomes and agricultural productivity through Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives.

Our focus centres on conducting demographic analyses of health trends at both national and sub-national levels, along with monitoring and assessing impediments to accessing healthcare, clean and safe water sources, and adequate hygiene and sanitation facilities. Importantly, we also evaluate communities’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices in this area.

Our endeavours extend to conducting comprehensive reviews of WASH conditions in schools, healthcare facilities, and households, as well as fostering improved water management practices and the development of sustainability plans for water resources in some of Afghanistan’s, and the world’s, most remote and challenging locations.

Amid the economic challenges faced by the countries in which we work, Salma Consulting establishes platforms that enable the most vulnerable and marginalised segments of society to articulate their experiences with livelihood interventions, income generation, business development, and building resilience for the future.

Our initiatives track the impact of vocational training support provided to a diverse range of beneficiaries, including men, women, and youth. We also offer training aimed at enhancing the sustainability of agricultural production, conduct analyses of value chain sectors to identify potential income-earning opportunities, and address gender-specific concerns related to women’s participation in these endeavours$.
